Fire!

It has been a week or more and I need to write a new blog. But I want to make a short comment, an observation. Whenever I post a political narrative I do not get any responses, on the blog that is. Sometimes I am playing devil's advocate, being provocative, purposely antagonistic. One of my good friends is on to me and he doesn't respond on purpose. A few of you email me privately in agreement but often say I don't want to comment publicly. Or I get comments like aren't you afraid to post such things? What if the wrong people are watching your blog? What wrong people, what are they afraid of saying? I once told my abbot that I feel like a mute screaming "fire!" in a theater full of deaf people. So I will continue to write knife and gun articles but forgive me if once in a while I scream "fire!" Whoever you are out there, thanks for reading what I post. ghdave2@hotmail.com

Dave, I can't speak for your other readers, but as a student I really don't follow politics or the news that closely.

I don't own a TV, I don't read the paper and my free time online is usually dominated by other interests. Therefore it's difficult for me to make an educated comment.

Since I have been working this summer I have gotten into the routine of reading what is going on in the world, and it is really pretty depressing. I know something has to give but I still don't know where exactly.

Anyhow, keep speaking your mind. Even if hypothetically we weren't to see eye to eye on every issue I still respect your opinion (and your right to it).

Dave,
Possibly there is a reluctance to turn your blog into a political forum, with the endless bickering that would entail.

Possibly it's just because things are so broken, it is hard to know where to even begin anymore.

For myself, the system is so broken, it no longer even makes any sense to me to view things in terms of parties, left and right, liberals vs. conservatives, communist/socialist vs capitalism, or even pro Constitution. Our government is bought and paid for, top to bottom by huge corporate interests whose only "philosphy" is "MORE!", and our "government" almost does not even bother to pretend to represent us anymore. Technically, because of the allignment of corporate and government interests, it's fascist, if you need a label, but one that better sums up our experience of it is that it's a kleptocracy.

I think a lot of people in this country know this, and a lot of people are biding their time, and at some moment that probably none of us can predict, the floodgates are going to open, and no one knows what the result will be, except that it's going to get real ugly before it gets better.

But I don't think that you should take silence as any indication that people don't care, or aren't listening or paying attention. A lot aren't, but a lot are.

thanks guys for your candid assessment. You both touch on the root cause/concern of people, the uncomfortable uncertainty of where our nation is headed. People are dumping party lines and postures in hopes of finding some sort of commonality. Right now the state of the state is like an exposed root canal. I pray that we find that common cause to unite a nation despite politicians and posers.
