If ‘Assault Weapons’ Are Bad…Why Does DHS Want to Buy 7,000 of Them for ‘Personal Defense’?

The Department of Homeland Security is seeking to acquire 7,000 5.56x45mm NATO “personal defense weapons” (PDW) — also known as “assault weapons” when owned by civilians. The solicitation, originally posted on June 7, 2012, comes to light as the Obama administration is calling for a ban on semi-automatic rifles and high capacity magazines.

Citing a General Service Administration (GSA) request for proposal (RFP), Steve McGough of RadioViceOnline.com reports that DHS is asking for the 7,000 “select-fire” firearms because they are “suitable for personal defense use in close quarters.” The term select-fire means the weapon can be both semi-automatic and automatic. Civilians are prohibited from obtaining these kinds of weapons.

The RFP describes the firearm as “Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) – 5.56x45mm NATO, select-fire firearm suitable for personal defense use in close quarters and/or when maximum concealment is required.” Additionally, DHS is asking for 30 round magazines that “have a capacity to hold thirty (30) 5.56x45mm NATO rounds.”

Republican New York state Sen. Greg Ball also issued a press release this week bringing attention to the weapons purchase request.

Calls made to DHS seeking information regarding whether or not the RFP was accepted and fulfilled were not immediately returned on Saturday.

Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) on Thursday introduced legislation that would enact a so-called “assault weapons” ban. The bill would ban more than 150 firearms and limit magazines to 10 rounds. There is no expiration date on Feinstein’s bill.

 

Good Cop, Bad Cop

Its the oldest game in the book, Good cop, Bad cop. Joe Biden croons you don't need any "assault rifles" for self defense. What you need is a good double barreled shotgun. Maybe that was the gun of choice back when Joe was riding shotgun on the local stagecoach. Obama and Feinstien want all of your guns. But good old Joe he's a moderate. H'ell support your right to own a 2 shot shotgun.
If this is such good advice why don't we withdraw all of the FULL-AUOTMATIC rifles our troops are carrying and give them good old reliable double barrel shotguns? That makes sense to me considering how many rounds the average trooper wastes trying to kill someone. The GAO has filed a report saying that for every insurgent killed we have expended 250,000 rounds! Does this explain the millions of rounds of hollow point ammo our govt recently bought? Ammo that is illegal to use according to the Geneva Convention. But of course that doesn't apply to killing within our own borders.
Methinks that maybe good old joe has another agenda in mind. Maybe good old joe realizes that we are better marksmen and he does not want to pit his soldiers against an angy electorate? He is also trying to give the image of being a moderate and compromising. Those of you who cherish your right to shoot skeet or trap, to hunt with a shotgun beware. Old joes is just trying to divide us, one against another. Once your assault rifles are gone they'll be back for your pisols, and then your shotguns, bows and arrows, knives, etc, And Bad cop Obama, well he doesn't try to make any excuses he just wants you unarmed and docile.
So far 127 Sheriffs have denounced the Obama gun grab and have stated they will not enforce an unconstitutional law against law abiding citizens.

Benghazi

I could not stand to watch the pants-suit lady speak/lie/dissemble about her role and that of the administration in the Benghazi debacle. Once she said: a protest, or whatever, what does it matter at this point, I knew I could not continue to watch. Words matter, honor matters, the truth matters you POS. But what truth would we expect from the clintons of white water, monica lewinsky, and Vince Foster fame? She is certainly qualified to be our next president. She lies so convincingly and expects us to swallow it without blinking or choking. How many hours of coaching has she had from the time of the assault until today's hearing? Plenty.
